Oud Aruma was built in London, in a city where fragrance is judged by people who have already smelled everything. It is a difficult room to impress. It is also the only room worth composing for.

The materials come from further east. Agarwood, amber, resin, leather — the language this part of the world has worn for centuries. What London taught us was restraint: how to build a composition that opens quietly and is still there sixteen hours later, rather than one that announces itself and is gone by lunch.
